Quick question for you guys on the Alewifes. I have been researching colors and most manufacturers are really green. The pictures I have pulled show them to be more silverish blue with green and purple iridescence.
So what color Alewife would work best in your hood? More green or like the pic posted? I will post what color I shot last night, this evening.
Thankx from da Stankx! _________________

The K.O. Wobblers and Little Cleos I have seen that mimic alewives teh best are the chrome with a metallic green stripe. The chrome with a metallic blue stripe also do well.
I would say you are spot on with the iridescence, and it would be really hard to go wrong with those colors.
I also think that in the type of salmon fishing I have been using the flukes in, the white color works best during sunny or partly cloudy periods, and the darker greys and "smelt" patterns have worked better in cloudier or low light conditions.
Just something to keep in mind, not sure if that translates into useful info or not? _________________ Recent Fishing Adventures:

Thats what I needed! I am also shooting the new "Midnight Joker Shad" tonight. It is a translucent smoke with all the flake of Shadtastic.
Thanks again Ed! _________________

Here is that sneak peek of the two new Proto colors!
The first is a greenish toned smoke with sliver, holographic black, two sizes of black, holographic silver, and iridescent flake. I have named it "Midnight Joker".
The second one I have not named as of yet. It has all sorts of green and purple flake with shades of blue. It then has a violet hi-light in the plastic and a pearl finish top coat.
Thanks for the insight thus far fellas! Check for the Stankx on Thursday. _________________

trav,
got package today. thanks!!
initial thoughts -
the tail runs vertically.. can you tweak it to run horizontally? (if that makes sense). this way it can "swim"
the plastic looks great. im impressed by the body and feel.
now - i opened the bag, and got a good whiff of the garlic. first thought was, "wow. if travis had a fish (such as herring) scent rubbed in.. this would be dynamite!"
i'm going to let these babies swim tomorrow morning. i'll get back to you for full review.
looking forward to trying em. thanks! _________________

Got my "stinky package" (as the wife calls it) in the mail today as well.
*God I love that garlic smell* (High Five C.B.!)
- My thoughts:
The fit and finish on the flukes are awesome. Great detail, the plastic is the perfect density and has a great "wiggle" to it.
The midnight joker is a bit dark, but that's my initial reaction. I have yet to see them in water or natural light. I would like to get them in the water soon, and see what the fish think too!
The iridescent color is fantastic. It's like a long lost Elvis jumpsuit! Viva Las Vegas! I will be making a morning hit upon an unsuspecting body of water Saturday morning, and this fluke rigged on a 4/0 EWG custom fitted with a hardened stainless steel size 12 nose-anchor spring will definitely get some time off the bench once the sun peaks out from the treetops. Likely on the Ike Daiwa 7'6" Spinner fitted with a Daiwa Bradia 3000, and spooled up with 12 lb. Fireline. (can you tell I'm excited)
As for the sideways V-tail - I'm not sure if it will matter. I think we should let the fish tell us. _________________ Recent Fishing Adventures:

Great feedback already fellas! I am looking forward to next level of feedback.
Mike I went with a vertical tail for a different twitch than others. It gives it a more erratic action...IMO
Ed The Midnight Joker is a little solid. I would like a little more transparency
to it. Let me know how she go!
FishFreak Thanks for the props!

I think the "green metallic" effect can be achieved with a green metallic micro flake in a clear plastic. Much like the Big Hammer Clear/Red Flake Swimbait below that gives the plastic a shimmering flesh hue.
Then adding a lesser quantity of larger different colored flake will give you the visual break-up (especially silver and black flake for scales). Add the iridescence, and you have yourself a baitfish.
Take it for what it's worth, I have no pouring experience.
(I do love this color, and I am contemplating throwing swimbaits next year for Summer salmon. _________________ Recent Fishing Adventures:

The hard part is the salt in the plastic already makes it a milky white. That is mainly why I have been playing with the highlight additives. I will Shoot some with just the flake that you mentioned and we can determine the next step. Those solid backs I can do, after we figure out a color scheme to work with.

I'll let you know how they fish tomorrow Travis. I have a feeling the Midnight Joker will be rather effective during my pre-dawn assault.
Camera charged and the headlamp has new batteries.
