Cortland Launches New Website

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website at www.cortlandline.com. A primary focus was to make it visitor-friendly. As such, the site provides quick, easy navigation through its broad range of quality products. With just a couple clicks, one can view a vast array of braided fly lines, backing, leaders, tippet, nets and other accessories. For the sport fisherman, braided and monofilament lines, stainless steel and lead core lines, Dacron and Spectra-based superbraids for bow fishing – and its environmentally friendly Sinking Duck Decoy Cord and a host of other outdoor products for hunters.

The new site, just like the new logo, was necessitated by the company’s strategy to reposition itself as a global fishing line brand. Thus, it features more of a balance between fly and sport fishing, as well as content including technical specs, blog site, brag board, conservation news, and background on the company and its management team. Learn for yourself what the new Cortland has to offer, and imagine what innovative products we will create in the next 100 years.

2015 marks Cortland’s 100th year of helping anglers “feel the pull.” New designs and proprietary coating processes have made Cortland a leader in the fishing industry over the past century. During WWII, Cortland’s expertise in braiding was directed toward the war effort, manufacturing both parachute and bomb cord. Soldiers trusted their lives to Cortland products. After the war Cortland once again focused on fishing, utilizing the latest advancements in coatings and manufacturing to produce the finest lines on the market.

For nearly 100 years Cortland Line Company has been using silk, then plastic, and now premium polymers and proprietary additives to make the world’s most innovative fly line, braided fishing line, monofilament, paracord and sportsmans rope.

Dealer Spotlight: Florida

Capt. Harry’s Fishing Supply | www.captharry.com

Did you ever walk into a store and think right from the start, “These guys are dialed in and know what they’re doing”? That’s the feeling you get when you walk into Capt. Harry’s Fishing Supply, Miami Florida. Since 1970, Capt. Harry’s has been a leader in the blue water big game market. Not satisfied with just being a tackle store, store staff has long been a leader in innovation, developing new techniques and products for the saltwater market. With Miami being a hub for the Caribbean, Central and South America, they became internationally recognized as well. Seeing the need to reach these and other international markets, Capt. Harry Vernon Jr. created a small catalog business in the mid-’70s, which has grown into one of the most recognized names in the saltwater industry. In addition to the U.S. market, the store ships to over 120 countries.

Starting with four employees back in the day, the store is now staffed with 25 friendly, highly qualified and experienced personnel. If you have a question, they can provide the answer and the equipment you need. The shelves are stocked with products from all of the major manufacturers, including Cortland Line. They stock a full supply of C-16TM and Master BraidTM as well as a series of ready-to-fish wind-on leaders.

Cortland Pro Staff Spotlight

Captain R.T. Trosset | rtspindrift@aol.com

How many captains/guides have 200 IGFA fishing records associated with their names? I mean if you think about it, how many have 100 for that matter? Recently, over Easter weekend, Captain R.T. Trosset reeled in a 17 lb. 8 oz. lil tunny that is a new 30#-line class record. And we are proud to announce that, yet again, it was caught on a Cortland; a 30# Master BraidTM to be specific. It was Capt. R.T.’s 200th record fish, and we congratulate him and offer our gratitude for his loyalty to Cortland for so long. In fact, for nearly 40 years he has been putting clients on fish in the fabled waters surrounding Key West, Florida.

Cortland’s Fly Fishing Hierarchy of Products

Cortland has always strived to manufacture the most innovative fly fishing cores, coatings, additives and taper designs to meet the rapidly changing needs of today’s fly angler. However, during this process, we quickly compiled a product line that included an overwhelming array of products. In the last year, we streamlined and narrowed the entire fly fishing product line into a Good, Better, Best hierarchy.

The 333TM (Good), 444TM (Better) and Precision (Best) series of fly lines fit appropriately into this hierarchy. And all three series have performance, taper, coating and price differences that make them unique in the marketplace.

Praise for Liquid CrystalTM and Tropic PlusTM

“Cortland fly lines truly allow us the ability – despite often inclement weather conditions, a rather weary quarry, and other unforeseen variables – to place the fly where it needs to be, as well as the ‘leverage’ to control the most critical of variables — the fish — in an otherwise largely unforgiving and unpredictable endeavor.”

Every guide and big-game angler knows it can get real exciting, real quick when you bring a big fish boatside. Especially if it is green and has strength for another burst of fight. Control is the operative word, or maybe a better phrase might be “organized chaos.”
